Winter solstice

Today is the day when daytime lasted the shortest all year round, so called the winter solstice. Seems like it's been age since I saw the sun at 6pm. I definitely miss that. It's the darkest day of the year... but the coldest has yet to come. Looking at the desktop gadget, awaiting this few following days are temperature subzero. Snow already fall a couple of times. Strange fact: it's not that cold when it's snowing. It's fricking cold when it's about to snow. It's the coldest when you wake up finding your feet is freezing but you still dont wanna get up to put on the socks. Dam heater in broadgate which is automatically turned off every 2 hours (who gives a damn about global warming anyway, I'm freezing here) A cup of tea from York is definitely lovely in the mid of the night and in the morn.
Christmas is coming ^___^ Here's another vid from last 2 weeks when we went to Lincoln to see the christmas market there. Still Scotland vids to come

Christmas is coming!

Despite the fact that the day is only around 7-8 hours long this time of the year, now is when the nightlife of the city becomes most vibrant. Places are filled with lights and christmas decoration waiting for the loveliest time of the year. People are on spending sprees finding gifts and presents. As night gets even colder than ever, the spirit of christmas feels just so christmas-y ahaha.
For those wondering if it ever snows here, the answer is hopefully yes. Some year it does, some not. Hopefully yes so I can go out and take lots of pics lol. Even if it does, it's gonna be just like for a few days. Put it this way, it's just like the number of days in Bangkok when it really feels cold.
For the past two weeks I went to two christmas market where there were stalls selling christmas and not so christmas stuffs. One in Birmingham and one in Lincoln, a city just an hour away from Notts. Here's how it looks like!

Next vid ... Lincoln christmas market
Next trip ... Scotland!!
Cant wait for christmas ><" (and boxing day) !

York trip with my first DSLR

So ended the first trip I planned everything from the beginning til the end. From the train to the places to visit. It's not that hard at all here. After all, everything here can be done online, booked online, and even seen online lol.
Talking about the city York, it's probably the most English city in England. What do I mean by "English"? The culture, the architecture, the tea, the people, the places, (and unfortunately) the weather all comprise what I saw in York. Even the dog Yorkshire Terrier looks more English here than anywhere lol.

This is my first trip I get to go out with my first DSLR ^_^ I kinda looked like a crazy guy carrying 2 cameras at a time lol, my CANON 500D taking photo and the compact sony taking vids. I just soo fell in love with photography right now esp when you share such passion with your friends ahaha. Pics coming out look totally different from the ones I used to be able to take from my compact. If a picture really worth a thousand worth, the pic from DSLR probably says something like "York minster was so fantastic. I had loads of fun there and will definitely go there again." whereas the pic from the compact says "York minster was great." or smthn.

The fun part doesnt stop there. After the trip, even though just a day after, looking back at the pics, sharing them with my friends (thx facebook btw) can just relive the moment in the picture and make you wanna go back there again. Nevertheless, vid still rocks even if it needs some editing prior to sharing. It definitely tells more stories than pictures, but sometimes pictures just tell something video can never tell.

Next stop ... Birmingham Christmas market !!

One of the reasons I didnt choose to go to UNSW

It's another one of those heck free days when I just have totally nothing I want to do. Checking some air ticket in hope I can finally go outside UK travel somewhere. Guess what I've found. CHEAP air ticket..! how cheap? so fricking cheap I didnt believe my own eyes. I thought taking a coach into London from Nottingham for one pound was cheap. But this is Birmingham to Prague (or Dublin or Milan or many more) for just ONE POUND !!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a kind of promotion that will make you think how the hell does these air company survive bankruptcy not to mention profit.
www.ryanair.com
There's the web. The promotion I talked about ends tomorrow midnight but surely there'll be some more promotion to come.

THIS is what I call "low-cost airline"

Ice cream madness

London musical !!

Finally had a chance to go watch a musical in London and it's Phantom of the Opera! This can be compared to a farang coming to Thailand watch the thai cultural show or smthn i think.
As you may (or may not) have known, theatre here is relatively more popular (and more interesting) in both British and European's mind. Well, it better be because this show I watched has been running for 20 years or so now everyday except Sunday, once everyday, twice on Saturday and people filled up the whole theatre as you can see in the picture.
The theatre was just awesome. Just looking at how they built and decorated the place made me feel like I've really paid for something. Props springing out from the floor out of nowhere. Band of orchestra playing right there live. Actors singing and dancing dressing in vivid 18th century dress. This is doubtlessly one of the best national art.
Advice for those who wanna watch.
Let someone in London book a ticket for you first. (or try your luck getting half price ticket if you plan to stay there for a while) This can be risky especially on Saturday since more people tend to watch on Saturday.
Go read the plot otherwise you wont understand many things.
Listen to the music (youtube) before for enhanced experience : )

Actually, pictures not supposed to be taken but I managed to get quite a few. Too bad I didnt dare take vids lol.

Two months in UK
watch a musical --- checked.

coming up next week, trip to York.
next next week, christmas market in Birmingham.

Happy birthday to Ice

Joint birthday party of Ice and P' Yee at the cafe and restaurant called 'Pitcher and Piano'. The place is just awesome. It builds upon an abandoned church. Stain glass and everything church-ish is still there except the cross I think. Anyway, this is what we do on a birthday .... enjoy

Back in Thailand ni probably a few bottles emptied already lol. People here drink more conservatively due to the price ahaha so shots are as much as you get here.
That karaoke place is just five minutes walk from our dorm. I cant recall how old the Thai songs are but let me put is this way... Some of the songs make me think how time flies and how old I'm getting already ...

thx ton for the flash btw ^^ more pics on my fb

Winter falls

Looking at the desktop gadget ... the number appears not to reach two digits anymore these days. So what comes with winter breeze?
- shortened daylight ... it gets dark here just around 4pm and by 6pm you will want to be somewhere enclosed with a heater...
- consequently more clothings to be worn ... two layers just wont suffice anymore
- snow (?) not yet to come but i definitely hope it will snow this year ^___^
- laziness ... getting out of the blanket (not to mention the bed) is getting harder than ever
- ice cream !! yes, ice cream !! ahaha temperature outside reading 7 degree but inside such a cozy room, 50% off Haagen Dazs is just heavenly. It's usually 100 baht/scoop back in Thailand right? Here you get half a quart for 2.5 pounds!!!!!! Im so gonna try all the ice cream til discount's gone lol

Bicester Village trip

Last Saturday we went to Bicester village (pronounced 'Bis-ter'), probably the biggest factory outlet in UK. It's in Oxfordshire. Took the train around 3 hours including stops and change to reach there via Birmingham where we had to walked from one station to another. Turned out finally had the first chance to see how useful 3G can be. Yea, my bb bold lead me one mile through the city center to the station just on time ahaha. Well, actually we ended up asking for the way anyway.
The train is doubtlessly extremely punctual. Leaves at precise time stamped on the ticket, which happens to be the same time on the internet when we booked a week earlier. Comparing to the ever so changing, Thai rail, I still cant believe how the governments, probably tens of them since King rama V age, never care to improve or just at least make it punctual and reliable for people to take, say from Bangkok to Pattaya.
At the outlet, there are several things I noticed. Asian people were almost half of the people walking there, lol.
There're heck lots of people like it's free stuff to be given even though the cheapest shirt there is 40 pounds. And just like any outlet there is, what they're selling there doesnt have everything you see in the retail shop, at least not what my friends were expecting to see lol. (even though they ended up shopping til the last drop of time given)
Next trip... who knows where I'll go

Autumn (part 2)

It's definitely autumn now. Leaves turning orange, some not to be seen anymore. Chilly breeze makes me feel cold. It's one of my favorite moment here so far. Well, it's actually my expected-to-be-favorited, if u know wat i mean. Typical trees look just so pretty. Lots of them together make it just breathtaking. And by the way, it's 7 hours different from Thailand now, not 6 anymore, due to the end of daylight saving period so it gets dark around 5pm everyday now. Sunlight doesnt hit the ground at all on cloudy day. On a sunny day, if by any luck, around 9 til you see the first beam.
Really wondering now what's it's gonna b like in the winter ...
This vid is taken from the Wollaton park. Korean song just to add a korean feel ahaha

Life's fun

After a month here, all the hectic chaos of buying stuffs into dorms, settling down matters, adjusting to the places and the british accent are gone, I found out there're way too much time left to spend. It came to my mind that there're still soo many things I wanna do here. concerts, theater, football game, tennis match, I just have to go and watch these things before I'm too piled up with work or exam. The past week was a good start going out to new places, trying out new things. After all, I didnt come here just to study anyway.

By the way, the restaurant here has discount at Monday-Friday 12:00-16:00 only; 30% off!

Autumn

Leaves turning red. Weather's getting colder. This seasonal change, people in this country have to endure all the time year just to keep themselves alive. Some sort of natural selection .. if u will. A moment of thinking and simple logic making relates such simple change with how they strive and succeed. A child living here for 10 years would probably have seen, heard, and experienced lot more things than a child living in Thailand for the same amount of time.
After all, it's the change that accounts for all that matter. Even in (Newtonian) physics, Force=mass x change in speed, lol

Goose Fair 09

Its a carnival (?) that began 700 years ago. For those who are wondering, it's called goose fair because in the old days, thousands of geese were sold in the fair. It's an annual fair which lasts for 4 days, kinda like Coke carnival or smthn.
700 years later, here's what it has become.

**For those ppl who wonder y i almost threw up.... the rides look faster than it seems.

First few weeks in Notts

Two weeks have passed. This is the third country I have ever stayed for more than two weeks, first being Thailand and second being Australia (when I was in grade 6). Everything starts to settle; get kinda used to the weather here now.
The fresher fair in the vid is a fair organized by the student union. There're probably hundred of club and society you can join right away (later you can still join through the net). I joined five of them. Back in TU, this would never happen lol.
Class already started. Most of them are the same old I did last year. Well, the 3 months summer break proved to be a memory wash. I'm still adjusting my brain so it can pick something up again ahahha.

Some changes are meant to be. Some are never meant to change...
btw, thanks google map for the map in the vid.

Apple vs Blackberry

There're lots of people asking me lately whether to choose an iPhone vs a blackberry. I just wanna compare the feature so that you can decide yourself.
Since I've been using an iphone for 2 years and bb not even 2 days, you're more than welcome to add anything I miss out here.

Performance: generally, iphone does better in high-capability performance. (i havnt seen any bb doing high performance app yet) one of those being very interesting futuristic type of app called 'augmented reaility'. Besides, gaming on 3gs can still go extremely far beyond what current games are offering. I think in half a year, there will probably be games like mini-counter strike playable on 3gs (multiplayer-able, of course).

Applications: iphone offers loads more apps that can be downloaded via itune (or crack version somewhere else **NOTE: im not sure if contract iphone can install crack app or not** However, the apps on each phone are pretty different in function and therefore depends on one's personality and/or purpose of usage.

Internet/Social network: Althought both phones can surf internet with ease, i have to admit that using the trackball as a mouse still feel kinda slow compare to iphone's touchscreen. What bb packed inside however is the push mail system that allows whether it be bb message, facebook notification, twitter update to pop up instantly so u can do everything social-network-ish always in real time. This can be as addictive as when you first try msn where you cant stop chatting with friends even if all the things ur saying are 'lol' and 'yea'.

Keyboard: I'd have to say this is up to each person because iphone's virtual keyboard can be hard to use at first and still hard to use later (or not) depending on one's texting professionality. bb's keyboard, of course, is a rock solid keyboard. With both hands on you can type 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.' within 15 secs. Thai keyboard, however, takes longer time to familiarize with due to only 3 rows of keyboard and no thai alphabet whatsoever on it.

System: From my 2 days with bb, one of the fondest i discovered using it is that multiple applications can run simultaneously. You can surf the net, switch to type a message, go and listen to some music, coming back to the browser to find that its done loading. On the iphone, this would be very frustrating sometimes when ur using an app and some1 calls and you have to restart everything over again.

Camera/earphone: on 3gs vs bbbold, the camera quality are kinda the same. bold wins with integrated flash. iphone's earphone simply sucks because any typical earphone just cant fit with its socket requiring you to buy its own earphone. Video taking comes with 3gs only (not sure about 3g) Bold has video taking app built in.

Price: currently 3G and bold has the same price. 3GS being more expensive buy around 4000 baht.

Other factors to be considered include battery life, and i totally forgot to mention that with blackberry, you'll get to be inside the bb society, exchanging pins and u know chatting all the time from anywhere in the world.

well, if you ask me which one to choose, i'd say it's totally up 2 your personality. I chose bb because I spent enough time with iphone already, just wanna try smthn new. Btw, my pin is 2127C7F6. add me ... or buy one and add me. LOL

WWGD?

Just before leaving Thailand, I decided to get a book to read on the plane. I went to my fav bookstore kino and grab whatever seems the most interesting at that moment. I was gonna pick a book of brief history of England, but I thought I'd probably never finish it. And so I found this book that caught my eye with the title 'What Would Google Do?' and yes it's colored like that lol
I didnt read it on the plane, however. It felt at that time too nauseous to be doing anything but sleeping lol. So I just had the time to read few days ago and I found it very intersting.
Google is unquestionably the best search engine and the richest internet business on earth. Before reading the book: Yea, so what. I'll just wait for its new product. (btw google wave is coming soon in case you dont know that)
After reading the book: HOW did it manage to do that?
There are so many ideas that can be derived by looking at google's business. cant giv all of them of course. Here's a few.

Be a platform - youtube, facebook, flickr, etc.
Free is a business model - if you're not providing something at the lowest cost available, someone else will, and so go will ur customer
The post-scarcity economy - you cant sell anythn based on scarcity anymore, everything in internet based economy is always in abundance. Find opportunity in there instead.

There's a lot more ideas in the book on why the old ideas will not work anymore in near future. Til that time, what would u do? I'll ask 'WWGD?'

View of my dorm

Someone used to tell me the ranking of a university merely reflects the number of professor that university has. If Thammasat were to have 10 more professors by magical means, its ranking would rise immediately at least 10 places. Well then, those professors wouldnt be around undergrad students like us anyway.
That's what I believe to be true until today...
Well, today we are introduced the tutorial system where tutors are assigned to students to take care with academic, personal, counseling stuff. I first thought these people would be post-grad or smthn. lol. They're professors! (or at least doctorate) These peeps will be talking to us once in two weeks giving advise.
I guess this is how professors affect both us AND the ranking... ?

This vid is for my family who probably wants to know how small is the room I've been describing 555

First days in UK

ทุกกิจการเลยต้องหาวิธีลดคนโดยใช้เครื่องจักรแทน (after all it's this country who started industrial revolution lol)

Leaving on an A380 jet plane ~

After all the goodbyes with the friends, close cousins, havnt-seen-for-a-long-time cousins, and whatnot, it's finally the day I've been waiting for.
At the moment, 9:48 12/9/09, I feel no excitement whatsoever, no idea why. My suitcase is fully packed, I'm afraid too packed up it's gonna burst open at any moment lol. I feel so free I'm writing an entry here -_-" Right after this I'll have to format the computer to avoid any problem if the officer at the airport in UK happen to check my notebook. (dont forget to do that if ur using a non-license aka cracked windows)
Everything is so ready. I already started to miss my dogs...

After Effects

There comes a time when absolutely nothing is interesting to you when you know that you'll be going abroad in two weeks.
games? - bored
book? - i'd rather sleep
facebook? - checked everyone's status during the past 5 minutes
I know I'm supposed to be preparing stuff to be packed into my suitcase but no mood for that just yet. Well, after a long waste of time trying to create a title of this blog's video with Flash, I just found out After Effects prove to b a much better one. This one kept my week going at normal or even fast time speed. I spent probably 30 hours altogether watching tutorial of After Effects and another 5 hours or so figuring out what I've just watched by doing this title lol. So anyway, here it is!

Anyway, back to packing suitcase ... I checked out pantip board on what to pack in the suitcase.
Go read what they recommend in there.
Here's what I think I'll bring at this very moment ...
-6 pairs of jeans
-2 pairs of black trousers (from the uni uniform lol, in case, hopefully, I get to work somewhere)
-4-5 shirts
-4-5 long sleeves
-jumpers/cardigans
-T-shirts and shorts for wearing in the dorm
-suit and tie
-underwears, long johns and scarfs
-2 jackets
-some hangers(?)
-laptop, external hdd, plug converter, thumbdrive, blank DVDs
-medicine that can relieve headache, stomachache, fever, cold and vitamin C
-a book to read on the plane (gosh i hate sitting on the plane), cookbook my sis gave
-stationery stuff and my lovely calculator
-towels and bathing stuff
-camera, iphone (with the charger) (hopefully I'll get rid of my iphone there and get a bb lol)
-mp3 player
-hairdryer

douments to be brought (evrything with a copy)
-passport
-TB test
-ucas firm paper
-visa letter

club 21 ... 2 weeks left

So passed 28th August and I suddenly feel older once again.
2 weeks til my departure of which the date of return is not yet set
I could be there for 2 years, graduate and come back, or might as well work and continue my study there. It's all the feeling of excitement, sad, overwhelming, breathtaking altogether.
2 weeks and I'll be away from the world I've come to known all my life.
Few days ago my dad and I were talking about phones and how I should call back often and it really touched me.
He told me to call back often cuz he doesnt know if his call is going to disturb my studying time
I said how do I know my call isnt gonna disturb your time?
He said "โทรมาเหอะ ทางนี้ว่างรับสายเสมอ"
baab wa ja cry lei ...

I then realized how little time I have left with my family, do you?

PS thx sis for the present, I'll sure as hell need that

VISA UK

-passport
-IELTS ตัวจริง
-bank statement
-TB test
-visa letter
ยื่นเสร็จก็รอ scan fingerprint + take a photo แล้วก็รอผลได้ !

6.21 ติ๊ก personal bank statements & savings pass book

New blog

I decided that it was kinda too much for this blog to contain everything including the tutorial thing so I decided to create a new blog for that
visit reanpised.blogspot.com for more of that.
Yes I'd love anyone who wants to contribute teaching to the freshmen posting in there.
Thanks in advance

Projects

Since I've been so fricking free this semester break, I decided to study at Netdesign the course of PHP and java. After sometime, something just suddenly enlightened me that I can do so much more with a computer.
Projects I am currently planning are:
-routinize this blog
The video in the last post was just a beginning. Believe me I'm gonna make every TEP/TEPE student wish he chose to go to England. LOL

-make this blog a tutorial center
Here's the catch. I will be posting tutorial stuffs for TEP freshmen like how to solve cal and physics problems in easy steps as I've been teaching so many times already. It's not that hard at all. You can ask anyone in my gang. Three hours is all you need just the day before your exam in order to pass the mean score. Anyway, those who want to join or help me do the tutorial please contact me or leave response here. Thanks in advance for that.

-facebook app/game
PHP course had taught me how to write a web in PHP language. That didnt really interest me until I knew that facebook apps are written in PHP! It's currently in planning out period so I'll keep you posted until something concrete is forming.

Anyway, let's talk about something less serious. I went to try out the curry house CoCo ichibanya today. You guys probably noticed the store. It's always crowded and queued up on the G floor at Siam Paragon. My friend said Rice in Siam Square is better. I'd say they're different. This one let you choose how spicy do you want your curry to be, how much rice you want, what you wanna add, basically customize your own dish lol. I ended up not finishing the curry cuz mine was too spicy. I chose spicy level of 4 (out of 5). I recommend you try level 1 or 2 first.
My weekend wont be complete without a movie with my dear family. HP6. That's literally the only choice. ***SPOILER ALERT***
I am one of those who read the book. Couldnt remember much cuz it's like 4 years ago or something, but I remember so well how it didnt actually end like the movie. Basically, the whole movie was great. Effects were great. Scenes were brilliant. Plots are more teenager-ish and love-related for the characters. I was happy with the movie until the end of the movie where I couldnt believe how it ended.
The seventh episode is going to be made into two movies for those who don't know yet. I bet the first half is gonna be boring.
Next week looking-forward-to-movies: Dear Galileo & Public Enemies.

My first VIDEO upload !!

I spent about 4 hours doing this video. Hope you all enjoy lol. At least I did when I was making it.
That video was kinda a recap of the weird stuff my gang has been doing since we formed the gang. There're lots more, believe me but most of the time it wasnt recorded so well here it is.
Anyway, speaking of the time matter, not even two months left now til I'll fly away to England. I'll be posting videos like this from over there definitely, recording stuffs all the time and show you how I'll be living a dekTEP's life.
Please do comment on the video. I'd love to hear your response.
The song is Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand, by the way.
Brit rock rulez ! (Jrock pwns)

Today, I went to do the TB test. Here's the summary for those who wanna know the details.
bring: ID card + copy (signed)
passport + copy (signed)

go to Kasemkij building which is right across CP tower. You can get down at BTS Saladaeng station. The office is on the eighth floor. You'll need to exchange the visitor's card. Give the guard anything BUT the ID card lol. Go up, wait abit and sign papers, wait abit more, pay the money, then you can go to either Phyatai 2 Hospital or Bumrungraj Hospital, which I chose to go to the first one because my mom is having a surgery there today. Give them what they want. They'll tell pretty much all the steps you'll need to do. Get the xray photo back to IOM. Do not open it. and that's it. They'll just give back the certificate which I'll need to keep with myself while going on the plane.
Unfortunate people like my friend Jeed will have to go through a series of sputum test because there's something wrong with the photo. He had to go to the IOM for 3 days at 6 in the morning just to spit and let them check your sputum LOL.

First Official Blog Post ~!

Well, this is my first official post that will be posted in this blog. I suddenly decided to do this first one today because it is about 2 months left for me as of the moment after which I'll be in England. FYI, I'll write almost everything here in English, maybe I'll leave the Thai for someone else, but the vids I'll be soon posting will probably be commented in Thai.
Feeling: excited, exhausted from studying, glad I finally started posting something here

Last week, we bid farewell to our two years companion through TEP's 5 semesters who went to Sydney. Honestly, it wasnt as sad as I thought even though I wont be seeing them for another two years. It totally didnt feel anything like sad at all lol. You'll know why once you see the pics and the vids ~
