Merry Christmas!!

christmas is upon the town and this year is probably the best one in my entire life
not that i received gifts from santa or anything, well, u can say i kinda did.
gifts of friendship u can say
i met 3 friends who i havnt seen since ive been to the uk
spent an amazing 5 days together on a trip to berlin dresden prague
i have to say that its exceeding my expectation by a whole lot
christmas time itself is such a beauty
living it with teenage memory friend is a much more

talking about the city, berlin is a city u cannot truly understand without knowing some history
through two world wars and the cold war, the german ppl totally amazed me how they
thrive through such hardship emerging now as one of the world's leader
unlike us thai ppl who probably advanced no further than a few steps since rama v reign
enuf political stuff lol
christmas market!!
if u think the one in birmingham is beautiful, germany's will take u literally to another level of beauty
from the decorative stalls, the ppl that livens up the atmosphere, the better hot wine XD
im so definitely recommmending ppl coming to germany to come during christmas period now
except for munich of course where octoberfest is THE time

moving on to prague...
strolling on the streets will keep ur head up looking at the magnificence of bohemian architecture
i totally have no idea how the architect of the buildings in this city come up with an idea
of unique exterrior look from building to building. my camera is probably filled with hundred
or so of pictures with just building in it. too bad i didnt plan the trip better otherwise i could
be off to another city where my friend regard it as having the most beautiful castle

munich will be revisited due to the limited i had there
again ... as long as i stil havnt been to munich during octoberfest
this city will be in my to-go list always

taking the train from munich to innsbruck through the alps
again ... one of the best scenery ive ever witnessed that time
only to be bested by the scenery from the top of alps itself overlooking the town of innsbruck
i was skiing there for a day
tripping and falling but never afraid of falling agaon and again
because once i fall, i would b lying down looking upon the best view again and again

lastly, i'll have to say thanks to alice, our class president for inspiring me to travel
the trip reminds me so much of how we used to travel n have fun together in senior excursion
pix to b shown later

merry christmas and happy new year :D

Dear Winter

Time's flying so fast sometimes I forgot I'm already 22 years old -_-" What I just did the past month? Lots of stuff. We had a concert/party in Nott last week. Great to feel back in highschool practicing band with friends and stuff. Didnt do this for sooo long. Below is just a sample. For more go to my youtube's channel. We played 20 smthn songs. I played keyboard of course, about 10 songs.
My final year project is going well. I'm experimenting on interference of signal on cable. Equipment looks intimidating for me to use but interesting as well. I have a whole chamber (4 by 4 by 3 meters size) as experimental chamber. I just need to get some signal outta that cable and figure out why the graph looks the way it does.
Other stuffs are okay. Can't believe it's two weeks til semester break already. Vacation time! Shit, after this, it's the last semester of my undergrad life..... nooooo!!
Nott just snowed last night. Earliest snow in 20 years or smthn. Wishing on the snow that next year this time around I'll be shopping in New York on black Friday ^^ Well, at least be in New York too busy to be shopping. Dam, I just cant think of if I cant get into the US what am I gonna do.

Usual update

Well, well. Alton tower was great. The rides were great. Thrills just to see it. Great to be on it. Dizzy after got down from it. Fun experience overall. Suggested anyone going there to buy a fast track for scream. Would save you lots of time.
Liverpool was soso. Nothing much cuz i didnt plan where to go ahaha. Main thing of the trip probably is the Anfield stadium. It was smaller than I thought, at least from the imagination I have from watching the premiere league. It was fun anyway. Saw the stadium, the room where players would gather, room where the press conference is held. They were all smaller than I thought ahahaha.
Going on to blackpool. The city was seaside, but I never expected it to be kinda like Pattaya, which it kinda did. But English city is anyhow English. Shops and stores started closing down at 10pm. By 11, only the pub and clubs were left. The lights were good to see even though we didnt take the tram tour.

And for the unexpected event this time around. Our house got robbed for the first time.
This is how it happened.

Last year of undergrad's life

It just so came to my attention that I have around 8 months left of my undergrad's life so I want to make the best out of this time left.
Just came back from Samaggi Summit in Edinburgh in the name of a Nottingham representative. It's great to meet all these great people from all over the UK, most of them postgrads. We discussed about Samaggi activities this year which include of course the Samaggi game, the biggest event of Thai students in UK. Last year there were 2k people in Notts :D Then there's academic conference, showing off Thai students' work in research in every field, and there's recreational event like concert which brings a Thai band to UK to perform. This year we also discussed the constitution of Samaggi and how it should be governed. It's pretty amazing to see how these PhD think so differently from us lol.
Anyway, this year the Samaggi game's held in Bath (YESSS!!) Chance for me to finally visit the stonehenge ahaha.
Will hopefully get to see these wonderful people again sometime.
Other stuff in the time being... so far so good. Next week, alton tower, the theme park will be visited. Organized by Thai soc. Over a hundred people attending already. Gosh. Must be a mess if something goes wrong. Anyway, I'll do my best and a week after that, Blackpool illumination festival and Liverpool :D:D:D
It's the last 8 months already so
football match -- to be seen
concerts, gigs, live band -- to be attended and played
more Europe -- to be toured
First honor -- to be received ;)

Here's one of the last event I'll probably attend in Notts, the goose fair.

Moving in

First entry since I'm back to the UK ! Well, the most exciting part will probably be moving into a house of our (rented) own. How's it better than living in a dorm?
Internet!!!!
Thats probably the only reason lol. Dorm's internet (particularly in Uni park) blocks bittorrent and any kind of file sharing web (ie rapidshare, mediafire) and that's infringement to one's access to information! lol
Now I'm in a house, freedom is mine. 50 mbps!!! (I'm so gonna laughing at this pathetic speed when I read this blog 10 years from now, lol)
50 seems extremely fast doesnt it. In fact it's not really that fast. Due to the unstability of virgin broadband network, the internet connection sometimes just sucks to the point i couldnt even open facebook. Other times of course includes downloading torrent at 2 mb/s.
TV is included in the broadband package. After a year in UK, i finally get to consume british media -_-" Fees of all these include the package fee (broadband + cable TV): 46/month
TV license fee: 140/year
Hi-def 32" Samsung TV: 320 pounds.

Next the cost of living is reduced dramatically when everything is shared. Last year, I spent at least 30 pounds every week for the groceries. Now the average cost for a week is only 25 or so. The best part is that when we order more than 100 pounds worth, Sainsbury deliver for free!!
Heck, now we don't even have to go out to shop for grocers lol. I mean right in front of your home. Even if it's not free, the deliver cost still outweighs our transportation cost anyway.

Oh, I almost forgot another best part. The faculty of engineering is now 5 minutes of walking away from my home.

The vids just show you around the house. I live on the ground floor. Jeed and Toey and the first floor (British convention). Meen on the third. House looks abit messier than recorded.

That's sainsbury's stuff in our living room delivered.

GRE experience

It's an exam I hope to never take again ever. Hopefully the score I got today was enough to apply and get into the uni i wanna go to. So here it goes.

In the morning I even read of what to eat/not to eat before the exam. They said no simple sugar cuz that will not supply you enough energy to last for hours of the exam. They suggest complex carbs (and so do I) like rice and proteins.

Once I followed the direction written in the email to the exam location, I ended up in Maneeya center (near Chidlom bts) on the 6th floor. Exam room looked pretty much just like a normal computer room with walls separating each examiner apart. Rules are strictly enforced. No personal belonging whatsoever into the exam room. I was forced to put in my bag, wallet, phone into the locker, and yea my fuji green tea that i just bought as well. Going in and out of the exam room needed to be signed in and out before and afterward. Above each and every computer is a cctv camera watched by another guy in the room in front. Mission is simply impossible.

The proctor led me into the exam room and showed me my seat. They provided me with 2 pieces of scratch paper and 2 pencils. Staring at the screen, I was kinda nervous. But i realized I had to start the exam sooner or later before the caffeine from the fuji tea I just drank is all burned up and drowsiness starts to kick in. So the exam started with teaching how to use the mouse, keyboard and stuff which I just kept pressing exit until the writing exam.
Honestly, I never thought I could write a good 600 words in 45 minutes. Well, at least I never did it before. Obviously, i did it. The second writing assignment was relatively easy.

Next section the quantitative part, what I aim is a full score which was 800. Theoretically, I can miss maybe 3-4 questions from 28 and still get the score, depending on luck. (Getting the hard question right gives more score than the easy ones) I was never a perfectionist to begin with, making it even harder. But again, practice makes perfect.

Last section, the verbal part. I can fully feel that the caffeine was half past gone already. Reading comprehension was harder than ever, with the time limit pressing me. I had to guess few of the passage questions just to move on to do it in time.

After finishing the last question, it asked me if I want to report the score. Choices were to cancel everything I've done today, and see the score and report it to the uni. (cancelled score can be resend for $60 o_O) Then the long awaited time .... the result (this is the best damn thing about a computerized test --- result immediately after !)
Verbal 600
Quant 800

Yay! I think this score will be fine hopefully. Current target uni: Cornell U.

Italy !!

One week in Italy with 3 of my best friends.
Rome Florence Pisa Venice Milan
General impression: Rome is a tourist city (at least around the center of the city in the summer)
Tourists just rule the town jing jing. Much like how London's tube is infested by people who doesnt look least bit like Londoner. But the city itself is historic. Best time to come: probably around April as June was way too hot for us to stroll through the town without a bottle of water handy all the time. The ancient city was, just like in the vid you saw, ancient, dusty, bricky, much like what you'd see in Ayuddhaya except the structure is Roman, not Pagoda.

Street Italian food's taste didnt really meet my expectation. Originality is unquestionable as I dont think you can find any more original Italian food outside Italy. But I have to admit that Italian food in Thailand is more or less fusioned/adjusted so that it tastes somehow 'better' for Thais. They eat 4 courses (appetizer, first main course like pastas, second main course like steaks, and dessert). Of all the restaurants I went to, which according to a tour book was good, only 2-3 actually tasted good.

Forward to Florence. Beautiful city. No wonder whatsoever why renaissance originated here. Perfect atmosphere for inspiration. Pisa, on the other hand, disappointed me, particularly the leaning tower. I thought it was taller than that ! Yup, I did the tourists' pose at the leaning tower of Pisa to signify I was there once upon a time when it hasnt collapsed yet. Honestly, you can cut Pisa from the trip if you're planning to go to Italy and your time is not enough.

Venice is another city where Italians work to accommodate tourists. Besides making glasses and masks, I don't see how this city can live without millions of tourists visiting this city each year. Again, April is the best time to come around. Strolling around Venice under the sun doesnt feel that good.

Milan was a metropolitan city which I happened to see just a tiny bit before leaving back to bangkok. Nothing much to sightsee except that second biggest cathedral in Europe.

Overall it was a balanced good trip. Bit of shopping. Much of sightseeing. Eating was fab. The only part that sux was the train system.

GRE on the way

after what seems to be a few hundreds flash cards with 2 words & meaning per cards wasted
hours everyday trying to ace the verbal part
even more hours playing game after such a tiresome brain usage
finally i managed to get the score up from the first time i did the practice test
the score was 30% or so (5 choices each question, not really a good guesser was i?)
now i'm doing 60-70% in the verbal part :D:D
recommending the barron book 800 essential vocabs for those who wanna improve the score so it doesnt look that bad if you're going into a quantitative program
for a 700+ score i believe u'd have to memorize all the 3500 words in the barron prep book

quantitative part wasnt that bad to begin with
the worst i did was 2-3 questions wrong with 11 from 45 minutes to spare with

havnt started reviewing the writing part tho

i'm taking the exam this 10th sep just before going back to UK on the 16th
any1 planning to take gre will b more than welcomed to ask me for the ebookS
i've got like so much u can spend months reading every1 of those now

Stansted Airport

Besides Heathrow, London has 3 more airports (luton, gatwick, stansted) that accommodate low cost flight like this one I took. I never expected sleeping over at the airport to be comfy. I didnt expect there were going to be this few chairs as well ahaha. First I thought there would be some couches and chairs but this was like none. People sleeping over night on the floor everywhere. It wasnt until after check-in when there were more seats available. The saddest part is that we already settled in Burger King and thought the place was open 24 hours. That was until we got kicked out around 2:30 ><"
It still worths the cheap price anyhow. The plane was OK considering it's only 2.5 hours flight which I slept the whole way.
ITALY, here we go !!

London Tour

Fresh start of 2010 in London. Right now it's 2 more days til my first exam. Been forcing myself to wake up at 5 just to start reading for a few days already. It proves to be really healthy and my mind was extremely clear after all the blurry sleepy moment passed away. The tea I bought from York worked like charm. Nothing's better than a cup of tea in the morning. Reason not to read in the evening? Annoying facebook email just keeps popping up distracting me from reading and I helplessly have to check what my friend wrote even if it's just a simple 'lol' -_-" So yea, from now on, my reading will take place at 6 in the morning with a cup of tea ^_^
Weather right now starts to get extremely cold. Snow outside is like a few inches thick already. I just bought a heater fan to cope with that.
Talking about boxing day. It was heck of a chaos like people queuing up to get free food in those undeveloped countries just to pay for half price stuff.
Here's vid of the places we went to in london

SCOT-LAND !!!

First of all, happy new year evryone ahaha
it's been heck of fun week in London for the last 8 days
Totally need a radical change of mood in order to start reading for exam

sry for the delay of the scotland video update
i tried to upload the night before leaving to london but it failed ahaha
anyway here it is!
I was in a kinda hurry making up this vid so it kinda looks hurry-ish
